Derivative-optimized empirical mode decomposition for the Hilbert-Huang transform

چکیده
In the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) for the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT), a nonlinear and non-stationary signal is adaptively decomposed by an HHT into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) with the lowest one as the trend. At each step of the EMD, the low-frequency component is mainly determined by the average of the upper envelope (consisting of local maxima) and the lower envelope (consisting of local minima). The high-frequency component is the deviation of the signal relative to the low-frequency component. The fact that no local maximum and minimum can be determined at the two end-points leads to detrend uncertainty, and in turn causes uncertainty in the HHT. To reduce such uncertainty, Hermitian polynomials are used to obtain the upper and lower envelopes with the first derivatives at the two end-points (qL, qR) as parameters, which are optimally determined on the base of minimum temporal variability of the low-frequency component in the each step of the decomposition. This well-posedmathematical system is called the Derivative-optimized EMD (DEMD). With the DEMD, the end effect, and detrend uncertainty are drastically reduced, and scales are separated naturally without any a priori subjective selection criterion. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Nonlinear and Non-stationary Vibration Analysis for Mechanical Fault Detection by Using EMD-FFT Method
The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a powerful method for nonlinear and non-stationary vibrations analysis. This approach consists of two basic parts of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert spectral analysis (HSA). To achieve the reliable results, Bedrosian and Nuttall theorems should be satisfied. Otherwise, the phase and amplitude functions are mixed together and consequently, the ...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...
متن کاملThe Transient Dynamics of a Beam Mounted on Spring Supports and Equipped with the Nonlinear Energy Sink
The transient dynamics of a beam mounted on springer-damper support and equipped with a nonlinear energy sink (NES) is investigated under the effects of shock loads. The equations of motion are derived using the Hamilton’s principle leading to four hybrid ordinary and partial differential equations and descritized using the Galerkin method. An adaptive Newmark method is employed for accurate an...
متن کاملAn Alternative Algorithm for Empirical Mode Decomposition
The empirical mode decomposition (EMD) was a method pioneered by Huang et al [8] as an alternative technique to the traditional Fourier and wavelet techniques for studying signals. It decomposes a signal into several components called intrinsic mode functions (IMF), which have shown to admit better behaved instantaneous frequencies via Hilbert transforms. In this paper we propose an alternative...

Hilbert Huang Transform is a new developed method for signal processing especially suitable for non-stationary signal processing. In this paper, we propose a two dimensional Hilbert-Huang Transform based on Bidimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition (BEMD) and quaternionic analytic signal. Bidimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition is adaptive signal decomposition method and its decomposition r...
